Meet Jessica

Hi, I’m Jessica Milnes, the heart behind Modern Homestead Alaska. What began in 2021 as our dream of creating a modern homestead in South Central Alaska has grown into something I never could have imagined. I started sharing our journey as we built our home and created a life centered around family, hard work, good food, and the incredible place we’re fortunate enough to call home. Along the way, you’ve joined me for everything from raising animals and growing food to hunting, fishing, cooking, traveling Alaska, tackling projects, and all of the ordinary moments in between.  

Modern Homestead Alaska has become about so much more than the homestead itself. It’s about creating a life you love, appreciating where you are, learning as you go, and finding joy in the simple things. I’m so grateful for the community that has grown alongside us and for every person who chooses to spend a little piece of their day here. Whether you’ve followed from the beginning or you’re brand new, I’m so happy you found your way here.

The Heart Of The Home

Long before Modern Homestead Alaska, there was Aaron and Jessica. Through the years, they have raised a family, chased dreams, weathered hard seasons, celebrated the good ones, and built a life they are deeply grateful to share.

Aaron is Jessica’s steady place, her partner, her biggest supporter, and the person she wants beside her for all of it. Their marriage is woven quietly through so much of what you see here, from the biggest adventures to the simplest moments at home.

For Jessica, there is something incredibly special about looking around at the life they share and knowing they built it together. Not perfectly and not all at once, but side by side, one season at a time.

After everything they have built, dreamed, and experienced together, her favorite part of this life is still the person she gets to share it with.

My Greatest Blessings

From the moment I became a mother, my children became the center of my world. Being their mom has shaped who I am, the choices I’ve made, and the life Aaron and I have built together.

Watching them grow has been one of my greatest joys, and no matter how old they get or where life takes them, being their mom will always be one of the greatest blessings of my life.
